SSBT’s mission is to provide students and their families on the South Shore with the opportunity to develop an appreciation of ballet and other related dance disciplines in a safe and nurturing environment. We encourage our students to strive to achieve to their fullest potential, regardless of their course of study.
Our students perform on a regular basis including our beloved full-length production of The Nutcracker, spring Gala and in cooperation with local schools and arts programs, in order to share their work with the local community.
We are committed to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. We welcome all students regardless of appearance, gender, race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or disability. We maintain an open-door policy so that all individuals who wish to do so may join the SSBT community and share our art form.
South Shore Ballet Theatre is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 9 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels.
Pre-Primary through Level 5 will be taught by ABT® Certified Teacher, Marthavan McKeon, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.
SSBT is proud of its world class faculty, all of whom bring years of professional training, education and experience to their teaching from some of the most prestigious ballet schools and companies. Our students are routinely accepted into top-tier pre-professional summer programs, such as American Ballet Theatre, School of American Ballet, and Ellison Ballet.
Many of our students have been accepted into well-known university dance programs such as Fordham/Alvin Ailey BFA and The Hartt School. In addition, graduates have gone on to professional careers including Paris Opera Ballet, Boston Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet and on Broadway performing in Phantom of the Opera.
